First step will be to prepare a .bak backup file of your local database on your local computer or download the .bak backup file from another hosting server if you are migrating your account from one server to another. Once that is done, please go through below steps to create a New MS SQL Database on Database Server and then restore it.

i. Login to your Plesk account. On the homepage, click on the “Databases” icon on the middle section of your panel or find on right hand side from the list.

ii. Then click on the “Add a Database” option on the page to get a form. Fill in the Database Name you desire and also create a Database Username and Password. Make sure you select MS SQL in Database Type.

NOTE: You will need to change the Data source/Server name, Database Name, Database Username and Database Password in your web application’s Connection String as per database created on server.

iii. Once database is created, Now you can see your newly created database in list in Database section on your screen, please find “Import Dump” option and click.

iv. Now, select your .bak backup File on your local machine. Please note that it will only accept .bak file, so if you have the backup in .zip format then please extract it first then restore.

v. After uploading file it will show one notification on your right side with File import status.

You need to make sure that your database .bak backup file is a valid backup file and does not have any strongly typed database names or database usernames of your local database server.

If the above method does not work for you, you can always use the conventional method of executing a published SQL Script via MS SQL Server Management Studio from local computer or MyLittleAdmin available in Plesk panel’s Databases section.
